Deputy Headteacher - Teaching Excellence

Are you ready to lead transformational change and make a lasting impact?

At the King Edmund School, we are entering a bold new chapter. With a brand-new school building, an aspirational student body, and a new Headteacher at the helm, we are looking for a passionate and experienced school leader to join our Senior Leadership Team as Deputy Headteacher for Teaching Excellence.

This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of a school on the rise. We are determined to become the school of choice in Essex—a place where every young person is challenged, supported, and inspired to thrive. This isn’t a dream - it is a promise and you will be at the centre of delivering and creating this. This is a career changing and career developing opportunity.

The Role

You will be the lead professional for teaching, learning and curriculum innovation, ensuring that classroom practice across the school is consistently excellent, inclusive and forward-thinking. With a deep commitment to equity, achievement and ambition, you will work collaboratively with our staff to unlock potential and deliver life-changing education.

As a visible and influential member of the leadership team, you will:

  • Drive high standards in teaching and learning across all key stages.
  • Lead the professional development and coaching of teaching staff.
  • Oversee assessment, feedback, curriculum delivery and innovation.
  • Champion research-informed practice, inclusion, and equalities.
  • Contribute strategically to whole-school improvement, accountability, and culture.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking a confident, experienced and inspirational school leader who:

  • Has a proven track record of improving teaching and student outcomes.
  • Is energised by challenge and driven by moral purpose.
  • Is a strong communicator, relationship-builder, and team player.
  • Leads with clarity, compassion and credibility.
  • Understands the power of education to change lives—and wants to make that happen.

Why Join King Edmund School?

This is a school with immense potential and a powerful sense of purpose. Under new leadership, we are creating something exceptional—step by step, brick by brick. You will be joining a committed, talented team at a moment of transformation, where your leadership will directly shape our school’s success story.

Come and be part of something extraordinary!

The school day lends itself to a good work/life balance with the teaching day ending at 14:10.
