Well done to our Year 7 and Year 8, girls Hockey teams who have both won the District Championship this week.
Player of the Year 7 match was Lucy who scored 4 goals, consistently driving the ball into the attacking D area. Sienna drove down many dead ball situations and Evie A and Evie B, both made some excellent tackles. Jessica, Charlotte (Captain), Niamh, Honey and Molly all performed outstandingly well.
A mention should also be made of Isobel who was selected for the squad, but could not play because of injury.
Our B team also played extremely well, allowing only 1 goal to be conceded throughout their matches. Francesca was player of the match - as goal keeper, she saved numerous shots with complete confidence.
Lily, Sarah and Megan all played well mid-field. Amelia, Jessica, Jasmine, Emily and Jade all played their part in this successful team. The girls drew 0-0 in 2 matches and lost 1 game to the rally winners, 1-0.
Following on from the Year 7 victory, we are proud to add the Year 8 team as District Hockey Champions. Playing against Fitzwimarc, Cornelius Vermuyden, Appleton and King John schools - all with strong teams - our girls defended their title from 2017 with some exceptional play.
Players were, Daniela, Florence 1 & 2, Willow, Grace, Tallulah, Sophie, Millie, Olivia, Alice, Lyla, Saffron and Kate.
On 8 March the Year 7 teams played Fitzwimarc School with the A team gaining a brilliant 2-0 win. The girls played superbly in both attack and defence and Sienna was player of the match.
The B team battled hard defensively but conceded a goal, losing 1-0. Consistently making hard tackles and using her skill to dribble past players, Lily was named player of the match.
Hockey teacher, Mrs Evison, is urging the girls to join a hockey club outside of school. Many of the Years 7 and 8 squads are naturally talented and by joining a club they will hone their skills further, helping the team to retain their success for next season.
