Netball and HockeyPosted on: 27/11/2018
Recent matches for the girls hockey and netball teams have included both wins and losses but all of the year groups have played well.
In October, the Year 9 netball team played a very strong King John School side. Player of the match was Florence who had to change position during the game but went on to score most of the KES goals. Jaida also changed her playing position twice, allowing for injury and tactical changes, but played extremely well under the circumstances.
This team played a closely fought game against Cornelius Vermuyden school earlier this month. At half time KES were five goals ahead but our opponents played a better second half with the final score, KES 10 v Cornelius 15.
Also against King John, our undefeated Year 8 hockey team were a credit to KES and themselves. Their conduct and teamwork were as ever, commendable. Goal scorers in our 2:0 win were Evie and Honey. The same team won 2:1 against Sweyne Park school which means they are undefeated since Year 7!
Their coach, Mrs Evison, attributes this to their complete commitment to the team and training and describes them as awesome!
More recently our senior hockey team represented KES at the Senior District Hockey Tournament. Despite the awful weather and a tough first game against King John School where the team lost 2:0, the girls showed their resolve to play well against Appleton and Fitzwimarc Schools, both games ending in goalless draws. However the last game against Sweyne Park, where KES had the majority of ball possession, was won 2:0 and the team ended third in the tournament. Player of the tournament was Hattie.
On 26 November the senior team played Fitzwimarc again with some excellent defending by Kacey. Josie was outstanding, dribbling past multiple defenders, but despite some impressive play and many near misses, Fitzwimarc won the game.
The Year 8 undefeated Hockey team maintain their accolade, beating Appleton School in a league fixture by 3 goals to 1.
Player of the Match was Niamh who's ball control, forward thinking and attacking play, proved invaluable.
Goals came from Isobel (2) and Honey and there was some solid defence from Jessica, Charlotte and goal keeper Francesca. Francesca has recently played her first match representing Essex. Well done to her and to the rest of the Year 8 team!
