The aim of the curriculum at KES is to provide students with a wide range of experiences, with the intention of developing well rounded individuals. We enrich the Key Stage 5 curriculum to ensure that students are given sufficient development opportunities. Students are able to study a wide range of traditional A Level qualifications, as well as Level 2 and Level 3 vocational courses. Over 20 A Levels and 10 vocational courses are currently offered in the Sixth Form.
Level 3 Courses
The majority of students in the Sixth Form are studying a combination of Level 3 courses. We are able to offer the following combination of courses:
- 3 A levels + EPQ
- 2 A Levels + 1 BTEC + EPQ
- 2 BTECs + 1 A Level
- 3 BTECS or the CACHE Diploma in Childcare
Should it be required, we also facilitate the compulsory retesting of GCSE Maths and English (for students who attain a grade 4 or below) through timetabled lessons and targeted resources.
Level 2 Courses
Generally, Level 2 courses are suitable for students who attain grades lower than a grade 4. Students on Level 2 courses spend three days in school and two days in a work placement. Whilst at school they are able to choose to study; Construction, Health and Social Care, Childcare or Public Services. Maths and English resit classes are compulsory if students have not achieved a Level 4 grade, achievement in these subjects is facilitated through timetabled lessons and targeted resources. Successful completion of Level 2 will enable you to progress to some of our Level 3 courses.
All students in the sixth form have access to additional enrichment studies on a Wednesday afternoon. Currently this means that students can choose from the following options that will enhance their studies and develop their experience of post-16 study. The options available change each year however often include;
- Debating club
- Gold Arts Award
- Holiday Spanish
- Cookery Skills on a budget
